Documentation and online resources are designed to fill the full range of user needs.
Using HomeSite comes in two formats: Adobe Acrobat (PDF) and HTML online help. The PDF file is included on the product CD-ROM and is also available for download from the HomeSite Docs section of http://www.allaire.com/Documents/. The Help References are installed with the product and include Using HomeSite, product release notes (in the Allaire Support folder), and additional resources. The documentation contains a wealth of information for all levels of Web development:
If you are new to Web development, the best place to start is the Tutorial chapter in this guide. It introduces the basics of HTML coding by showing you how to a create a sample page. The second section presents Cascading Style Sheets and gives you an opportunity to apply style sheet rules to a sample page.
As you code your work, you can use the online HTML Reference to check syntax and usage. You can open it from the Help References or press place the cursor in an HTML and press F1. F1 help is available for all the supported languages. Open the Tag Chooser (Ctrl+E) to view the list.
To learn about creating and modifying editor dialogs for tags, see Customizing the Development Environment.
Power users and application developers can take advantage of the Visual Tools Object Model to automate tasks and to call HomeSite functionality from other programs.
The section on Developing Dynamic Web Sites with ColdFusion introduces Web application development for data-driven sites.
The Developer Center at http://www.allaire.com/developer/hsreferencedesk/ contains all the latest information on HomeSite and offers tutorials, technical articles, and links to other resources.
